The older version of this article was written before three changes that affect every Kyoto itinerary: Ginkaku-ji doubled to ¥1,000 in 2026, its first rise in 32 years; the city lodging tax moved to five bands on 1 March 2026, reaching ¥10,000 per person per night; and the ¥700 Bus One-Day Pass was abolished, with sales ended in 2023 and validity long expired. Rather than leave those figures online, we merged the guide into a single, dated version.
